Welcome back to day 25 of our Craft Room Organization Challenge.
Thanks to my cutting machines, sewing machines, and computers, I have a fair number of things that need to be plugged in somewhere in my craft room. Add to that my phone and camera chargers, and it’s already becoming a mess of cables. This will not do.
Today let’s talk about keeping cords organized and creating a charging station in your craft room!
Challenge 25: Plugging In
Organizing cords and chargers is pretty important in this day and age. We have so many more crafting tools and aids that get plugged in, everything from the low-tech glue guns and desk lamps to a fancy cutting machine or (one day!) a 3D printer. If we don’t plan for and account for this, we’ll go batty from all the cords on the floor and possibly even endanger ourselves and others with tripping hazards. There are three important things we need to consider here:
- Make sure you have enough plugs for everything you need to plug in spread throughout the room.
- Create a dedicated location for a charging station for your phone, camera batteries, and anything else you use that needs to be charged.
- Label your cables (at the plug end) so you can tell what is what and don’t accidentally unplug the wrong thing
In my craft room, I purchased three brand new power strips. Each one is plugged in around the room, extending my plug capacity by 6 times. Because I put all of my craft room furniture up on legs and off the floor, I can easily tuck the power strips under things yet still keep them accessible. So far, I have more than enough plugs in all the places I need them.
Next to my lightbox, which is near the entrance to my craft room, I’ve created a dedicated charging station. I’ve put a power strip up on a surface to make it easy for me (and my guests) to plug things in. This is doing a great job of keeping everything charged so far!
To organize my cables, I simply folded a piece of tape to the end of the cable (near the plug) to look like a little flag. Then I wrote the appliance to which the cable belongs on the little tape flag. Washi tape makes it look cute, if that matters to you. Super easy!
Day 25 Assignment: Get your power and cables in order! If you create a craft charging station or label your plugs, take a photo and share it on Facebook.
Until tomorrow,
