Welcome back to day 20 of our Craft Room Organization Challenge.

Yesterday we considered how to store our craft supplies … but what about all those other little bits and bobs we have? Do you have little things you need to store that don’t fall into nice, neat categories?

To say I have little bits is an understatement. Little stuff is EVERYWHERE. And I installed a bunch of drawers in my craft room, sure, but I am worried they will just turn into the fancy junk drawers. Why do I think this will happen? Because my kitchen has a junk drawer and it is the bane of my existence (I am planning to tackle my kitchen after I finish the craft room).

So we need some solutions for neatly storing and organizing our little things. I have one solution I’ve already implemented, plus some ideas!

Challenge 20: Small Item Storage

Storing small items is essential for a well-organized craft room. My solutions for this is to COMPARTMENTALIZE. And there are two ways we can do this — create compartments out of small storage or find pre-compartmentalized things we can use.

Creating Compartments

I love my drawers, but I refuse to let them become unorganized. I’m taking a firm stance on this right now. So I went out and found small containers that fit inside my drawers that allow me to compartmentalize them. Here’s what my tape and glue drawer now looks like:

Isn’t it pretty? Well, I think so. Every time I open it I feel so organized. And I can always find my tape and glue … and know exactly where to put it away.

It took a while to find these perfectly shaped bins for my IKEA Alex drawers — I found them at Michaels if you’re interested! Here’s a link to the small divider tray: http://www.michaels.com/turquoise-square-divider-t…

The advantage to creating compartments with small boxes or units like this is you can move them around, take them out, etc. The downside is its pricier because you have to get a bunch of them. So let’s talk about the less expensive alternative.

Pre-Compartmentalized Storage

Finding pre-compartmentalized storage for your little things isn’t hard to do at all. Once of the cheapest ways to do this is to buy compartmentalized food storage — though it doesn’t always fit together so nicely thanks to those rounded edges. Ice cube trays are another idea!

Here are some more pre-compartmentalized storage ideas I’m either using or plan to use in my other drawers. Some are functional and meant to be hidden away, while others are pretty and you may want to display them on a counter for easy access.

Day 20 Assignment: Determine if you need any additional storage for your small items. If you come up solutions to store all those little things we all have, take a picture and share it on Facebook. If you have a plan for something, draw it out or find a photo of something similar and share it with us.

Until tomorrow,
