Welcome back to our Craft Room Organization Challenge!
It’s Day 2, and we’ve got a long ways to go, baby.
By the way, did I mention I’m doing this WITH you? So I have a sewing studio in my basement I organized, but my office/craft room … NOT ORGANIZED. I’ve been working on getting it in shape, and I have big plans for it, but I have so far to go still.
So I’m doing the 30-day craft room challenge with you. Everything I tell you to do, I am also doing.
Challenge 2: The Purge Begins
Today we need to begin THE PURGE.
You’ve looked at your craft room. You’ve REALLY looked at it, right? So chances are good you’ve seen some things in there you either do not need in a craft room, or just don’t need at all.
We’re going to keep thing simple today. I want you to go into your craft space and look seriously at all your stuff. Look at each item and ask yourself, “Do I really need this?” If you answer yes, ask yourself “Does it belong in my craft space?”
If you answer NO to either question, it needs to go.
If you answered YES to both questions, I need you to answer one more question. “Will I use this item within the next year?”
If you answered NO to that last question, also consider getting rid of it. For real.
This may be hard for some of you, I know. You may not have a place to put it. You may hate getting rid of things. You may just not “be sure.”
But if there is any doubt in your mind, it should leave the space.
Purging is one of the best things we can do. AND it’ll make you feel good.
Don’t believe me? Pick something up right now, move it out of your craft space (throw it away if necessary), and reflect on it. You now have one less thing to worry about in your craft space.
Today I went into my craft room (which is the room I’m typing in right now, since it is also my office) and I moved a mirror. I didn’t need that mirror in there. I took it back down to my sewing studio, where I DO need it. Here’s that old mirror — say BUH-BYE to the craft room, mirror!
Day 2 Assignment: Find ONE thing to purge from your craft space. Get it out of there. Then come over to our support group on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/craftroomorganization to tell us the ONE thing you purged and/or shared a photo of it.
