The great thing about my dome candy holder designs is that they’re reusable. The candy is stored in the plastic dome, and we’ll craft a mechanism that allows it to be filled and refilled with treats or little gifts. They’re perfect for party favors or just a sweet way to wish someone a nice holiday season!

Using a metal brad to create the dial mechanism, I’ll show you the best way to make sure your dispenser so it holds the candy tight inside until you spin the dial to let it out.

The first thing you’ll need to do is get the ZIP file, unzip it, then upload the SVG cut file onto a blank Canvas in Cricut Design Space. After that, it’s ready to cut! You can use the color of cardstock I did, or mix it up and choose your own.

Next, I’ll show you how to prepare all the pieces using a Cricut Maker 3. You can use an original Maker, an Explore series machine, the Venture, or the Joy Xtra! You don’t have to use a cutting machine, but it’s much easier because of the precise cuts involved. If you do choose to cut the pieces by hand with scissors, I have PDF files to help you get the best results possible.

After the pieces are cut, follow my step by step tutorial on video or my written tutorial to find out how to put them together. Each of the designs comes together similarly, but with some differences specific to each. Don’t worry, I’ll show you every step for each design!

Use these cute candy holders for stocking gifts, treats to gift neighbors, or even as party favors or place settings on your holiday table. Customize them by switching up the colors, adding embellishments, and more! Just don’t forget to fill them up again when the treats have been devoured!

UPDATE NOTE: In the updated files, the polar bear and teddy bear’s tabs are a slightly different shape to make the standing pieces more stable, but the assembly process is the same. The new larger tabs fit into the middle of the ring and then slide into the slots.

Answers to Your Questions About My Dome Candy Holder Tutorial

Q: Where is your tutorial for this project?

A: This is a special project we made for our free Maker Academy Weekend 2024 event! A complete and detailed step-by-step video premiered during the event November 7-10, 2024. You can get access to the video tutorial and printable handbook that details how to make this great project if you get a 2024 VIP Pass to Maker Academy Weekend or by joining the ADVANCE with JenniferMaker program as an ANNUAL (yearly) member which comes with other perks and bonuses, too!

Q: Can you show me how to make a candy dome holder?

A: You can get access to the tutorial with a VIP 2024 pass and I will walk you through each part step by step. I have assembly videos for hundreds of other crafts, too! Just browse my blog for ideas and inspiration for your next crafting project.

Q: What candy will fit in these dome candy holders?

A: Small candy will work best in your Christmas candy holder. I used chocolate kisses, but you can fill yours with small wrapped or unwrapped candies.

Q: What is the dome made out of?

A: The dome is made out of clear plastic. Each dome piece is one half of a refillable clear plastic Christmas ornament. I love finding inspiration to use unconventional materials in a new way, don’t you?

Q: What do you need to make a candy dispenser?

A: I have a full list of materials and tools you’ll need to make this project above, plus links to where you can find them.

Q: What kind of paper should I use?

A: You can use any cardstock for this project like colored, glitter, patterned, foil — it’s up to you! I used 65 lb. cardstock, but 80 lb. cardstock will work just as well.

Q: What kind of glue should I use?

A: Any high quality craft glue with a precision tip for precise application will work well for this project. My favorite is Bearly Art Precision Glue.

Q: Can I make this with a Cricut Joy?

A: The main designs can be cut with a Cricut Joy Xtra as designed and shouldn’t be resized because the won’t fit the ornament halves. The Joy files can be cut with an original Cricut Joy, but note that they need a smaller ornament dome piece, which is listed in the materials.

Q: How do I know if my design uploaded at the correct size?

A: If you are using Cricut Design Space Beta for Desktop, try switching to the Live version as this has sometimes worked in our testing, or use the stacked version of the design and ungroup it to spread the pieces out. Here are the dimensions you should see for each design on your Canvas:

  • dome-candy-holder-base-jennifermaker-SVG: 9.735″ x 9.656″
  • dome-candy-holder-tree-jennifermaker-SVG: 14.681″ x 11.878″
  • dome-candy-holder-teddybear-jennifermaker-SVG: 11.024″ x 10.942″
  • dome-candy-holder-polarbear-jennifermaker-SVG: 13.07″ x 10.413″
