I’m getting ready to turn a wall in my kitchen into a chalkboard, so I’ve been doing some research into chalkboard writing techniques. I will admit I find it hard to be really artistic with a huge piece of chalk. But did you know you can “paint” liquid chalk onto a chalkboard using a stencil for perfect lettering? Yep! I figured out how to make liquid chalk (also known as chalk paste) and I’m going to show you how today!

DIY Liquid Chalk Materials

  • Colored chalk (sidewalk chalk works great)
  • Cheese grater
  • Liquid hand sanitizer
  • Paintbrush or a plastic card (like a store loyalty card)

How to Make Liquid Chalk

First, grate your chalk into very small, fine bits using your cheese grater.

Next, mix in a little bit of hand sanitizer. Keep mixing it in slowly until it turns into the consistency of cake batter. Mix well.

Apply your stencil (I’ll talk about that in a minute) to your chalkboard, press down well, and brush or dab on the diy liquid paste. You can move it around with the brush, or use the card to spread it around.

Remove your stencil and your beautiful chalk design remains, looking AH-mazing!

I hope you find this little tutorial helpful! If you make some liquid chalk, let me know how it turns out for you!

Love,

Jennifer
